The old ticket office
on Racecourse Road above the site of Notabile Station |
|
Notabile Station was 6 miles
and 600 yds from Valletta and was the end of the line until the
extension to Museum station was opened in 1900 . There were two
platforms and a single station building with a booking office,
ladies room and a Station Master's office. Later a ticket office
was built at road level. From platform level, which was substantially
lower than the surrounding ground level, a set of steps led up
to Racecourse Road. The residents of Mdina and Rabat complained
about the siting of the station and the long up hill walk from
the proposed station. They proposed an underground station similar
to Floriana but the proposal was never implemented. Until the
extension to Museum station a passing loop allowed locomotives
to run round the carriages for the return journey. |
